The Concept

A rider-and-animal symbol that embodies the spirit of the brand. In a textured, hand-cut illustration style to mirror the brand’s craftsmanship.

The boy represents curiosity, intention, and human connection.
The bear represents grounded strength, protection, and nature.

Together, they form a visual story about harmony, trust and exploration.

The Business

Founded in 2012 as a small pop-up in Villavicencio, Colombia, The Boy & The Bear has grown into a specialty coffee roastery dedicated to direct trade, transparency, and showcasing the best Colombian coffee.

With locations now in Los Angeles, their mission remains rooted in building meaningful relationships with farmers and delivering rare, high-quality coffees with care.

“Working with Joe White was honestly one of the best decisions we made when building The Boy & The Bear.
From the moment we discovered his design style, it just felt so natural for what we envisioned our brand to be.

Joe designed our logo, which has become such a big part of who we are and how we present ourselves as a specialty coffee roasting brand. This work has stood the test of time and has even become a bit of a reference point in the industry for what great branding can look like. His work has this timeless and versatile quality that still feels fresh, and coexists in an effortless way with all other design pieces we put out for our customers.

As a designer myself, with Joe, there was a real synergy between his talent and my vision for how every element of our brand should connect to create a brand experience that feels cohesive, intentional, and tells who we are.

It is rare to find a designer whose work stays relevant and continues to inspire, and Joe has definitely done that for us. ”
